DROUGHT Droughts can be meteorological – defined as the dryness and duration of the dry season; agricultural – mainly affecting food production and farming; hydrological – associated with the effects of low levels of precipitation on the water supply; and socio-economic – occurring when the demand for an economic good exceeds supply, due to weather-related water shortages (Pakistan Meteorological Department). 1.
